Research funding

Abu Dhabi ASPIRE Young Investigator Award (AYIA)

The AYIA is a competitive funding program for researchers who are within 6 years of completing their terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) for outstanding research proposals in targeted areas within Abu Dhabi. Research funded by the AYIA program is expected to advance scientific and technological development within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as well as develop meaningful partnerships between Abu Dhabi scientists and leading academic and industrial collaborators, both nationally and worldwide. Awards may be up to two years in duration with a maximum budget of AED 200,000 for non-Education and Social Sciences proposals. Budgets in Education and Social Sciences may be a maximum budget of AED 100,000.

    Abu Dhabi ASPIRE Award for Research Excellence (AARE)

    The AARE is a competitive grant program for outstanding research proposals in targeted areas. Research funded by the AARE program is expected to advance scientific and technological development within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as well as develop meaningful partnerships between Abu Dhabi scientists and leading academic and industrial collaborators, both nationally and worldwide. Awards may be up to three years in duration with a maximum budget of AED 1,000,000 for non-Education proposals. Budgets in Education may be a maximum of AED 400,000.
    • Student Research Elective: for a period of 3 months and primarily over the UAE summer period.
    • Research Training Support: or a period of up to one year with a maximum value of AED 200,000.

    The ViP Program aims to accelerate the research output of the emirate by attracting pre-eminent international researchers into Abu Dhabi’s research ecosystem. The program will foster cooperative ties between the emirate’s Higher Education Institutes (HEI’s) and international research institutions while tackling some of the world’s greatest challenges.

    Al Qasimi Foundation Doctoral Research Grants

    The Al Qasimi Foundation's Doctoral Research Grants encourage scholars from a wide range of disciplines and professional fields to undertake research toward informing policymaking in the United Arab Emirates. The Grants are open to PhD students from all nationalities studying at an accredited university in the United Arab Emirates or abroad. Proposed research must address an education, public policy, or closely related social science issue or question. Relevant topics (dependent on research question) may include areas such as education, urban planning/development, public health, economic development, food access, and energy or environmental policy. Doctoral Research Grants financially support PhD candidates in the research phase of their dissertations. Currently, two awards are available each year for applied research projects that have Ras Al Khaimah as a primary site for data gathering and analysis. The Grant covers all student expenses associated with their field research in the United Arab Emirates, including return airfares, furnished accommodation for up to 12 months, a stipend to cover living costs, and research support. Recipients are expected to produce one to two working papers as part of the Grant and make at least one presentation to the local research community.

    Al Qasimi Foundation Seed Research Grants

    The Al Qasimi Foundation’s Seed Research Grants provide funding for up to AED 50,000 to conduct pilot studies or applied research that will benefit the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. The program is open to individuals and organisations in the UAE and overseas from a wide range of disciplines and professional fields. Up to two grants are awarded each year.

    Al Qasimi Foundation Faculty Research Grants

    The Al Qasimi Foundation’s Faulty Research Grants programme is open to current faculty at recognized higher education institutions around the world and support field research in the emirate of as Al Khaimah over the summer months or during a sabbatical. Funds cover travel and local living expenses for up to two months; local researchers may redirect the travel support to cover research project costs.
    8.
    The Al Jalila Foundation funds Seed Grants and Fellowship Grants. The seed grants, open to UAE Nationals and residents holding positions at universities, research or clinical institutions in the UAE, provide up to AED 500,000 to support basic, translational, or clinical research projects with a focus on the pathology, diagnostics, epidemiology, transmission, therapeutics, and/or prevention related to COVID-19 virus in the UAE. The fellowships are available exclusively to UAE Nationals with a view to help develop their expertise and skills to contribute to the overall development of the healthcare community within the UAE. Fellowship grants are available in two categories:
