About Masdar

Established in 2006, Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, is a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable urban development.

Why is Masdar committed to being a parent-friendly workplace?

Working parents often need to make difficult tradeoffs in order to fulfil all of their commitments. By encouraging a more parent-friendly workplace at Masdar, we establish a culture and way of working that is compatible with a healthy work-life balance. In turn, this creates a positive social and economic impact on our company and community. To better support our working parents, we present Masdar’s Parent Promise. The Parent Promise is a guideline with tools, support initiatives and resources to assist our working parents and it includes the following categories: Onsite nursery and nursing facilities, parental leave and flexible work solutions, school support, company benefits, feedback portals, and other resources.

Share a parent-friendly workplace initiative that Masdar excels with and the impact it is having on the workplace culture:

The flexible working solutions (i.e working for 6 hours in the office and 2 hours from home) has enabled employees to manage the daily drop-off/pick-ups. Moreover, having more flexible hours means employees can attend school events and engage more with their children’s teachers and other parents. Finally, the onsite nursing room for new mothers is having a positive impact.

What are some of the business benefits you see from being a parent-friendly workplace?

Greater work life balance as well as staff retention and recruitment. People want to work for a business which shares their priorities, and all working parents would want to prioritize family time.

Masdar Employee Stories:
As a working mom, work-life balance is very important to me. With the flexible working solution provided by Masdar (6 hours at work and 2 hours at home), I have been able to drop off my kids every morning, kiss them goodbye and pick them up at 2 pm every day. It’s these little moments that we cherish and also brings us closer together.
We have six kids who attend two different schools. One of my sons is also severely autistic. So, school runs, children’s sports activities and the kids’ social lives already take a high degree of organization. In many businesses it would just be assumed that the burden of this falls mainly on mothers, but family policies mean that both parents can share the burden. Masdar is a sustainable business. I’m pleased to say we take the Sustainable Development Goals and SDG 5, gender equality, seriously.
It is extremely important to have some flexible time working within your company to help assist a new mother with fulfilling all her demanding motherhood tasks. At Masdar, I found it very helpful and useful when the flexible hours and working from home was introduced. This has facilitated a lot of my tasks and allowed me to have a good work-life balance.
I don’t know how to express my feelings. Masdar has been such a great support for me and my family. I was always supported in difficult times and especially the flexibility with regards to remote work. To be close to my kids and support them with online learning has been priceless. I truly appreciate Masdar’s vision and support for working parents. Thank you so much!
