Hidden Treasure!
GOAL:
- Develop motor skills by using individual fingers as a clamp to pick up things. To exercise pincer grasp.
MATERIALS :
- Large bowl
- Bread or cookie crumbs (can be store bought or homemade)
- Small toys
LEARNING EXPERIENCE:
You can make the crumbs by taking a bag and placing the cookies or dry bread inside. Then start to break the bread or cookies into very small pieces. To make this fun, you can make funny sounds while breaking the pieces. Your child can be a great helper!
Fill the bowl with the crumbs and hide the small toys at the bottom. Finally seat your child on your lap and grab your child’s wrists, guide them through the bowl and let your child explore to find and grab the little treasures.
It is important that you encourage your child by using affirmations like “Good job!” and “You did it!”.
Your child will discover that one feels interesting sensations when fingers contact surfaces. Also your little one learns to uses the fingers to grasp objects.
